Advocacy strategies for teachers
The nationally coordinated Languages promotional materials developed in this project are targeted at parents, school leaders, students and teachers of other subject areas, aiming to:
- highlight the intercultural, intellectual and vocational benefits of learning languages to a range of key stakeholders; and
- reinforce existing positive attitudes to languages education and assist in culture change in schools and school communities where there are negative attitudes.
The materials have been distributed via State and Territory education authorities and supporter organisations.
Languages teachers are encouraged to be active in advocating for Languages education as widely as posible. A variety of materials exists to assist in this advocacy work:
- Most State and Territory education authorities run Languages advocacy campaigns. Names of these organizations and website details can be found here.
- Other national and State/Territory organizations, in particular Professional Teaching Associations, support Languages Education through offering professional learning, networking, curriculum materials and student activities. Names of these organizations and website details can be found here.
